Vegan 2019 showcased some of the prolific voices in the movement

Plant Based News‘ most recent documentary, Vegan 2019 has hit a staggering 1,000,000 views on YouTube.

PBN founder Klaus Mitchell directed the film, which looks at some of the most significant vegan moments over the year – including the growth of the plant-based meat industry, and growing awareness of the environmental impact of meat production due to catastrophes like the Amazon Rainforest fires.

The film debuted at global premieres in cinemas in London, Los Angeles, and Beijing before launching on YouTube on December 1, 2019. Since then, it has garnered a huge number of views, positive feedback, and likes.

Vegan 2020

PBN is currently working on the latest installment of the series – Vegan 2020, which is set to chart the rise – and challenges – of the vegan movement over recent months.

The series, which started five years ago with the debut film Vegan 2015, aims to showcase the increasing health, environmental, and ethical awareness around the globe.

Each year, the film has grown bigger and bigger, attracting millions of views (with 4.65 million views across the years on YouTube alone, and many more across Facebook and Instagram). The movies are shared by thousands who want their friends and family to find out more about the growing vegan movement.

‘Unique and considerably more exciting’

In recent years, the considerable costs of making the films has been covered by ticket sales to the sell-out premieres. But this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, PBN will be unable to hold these events – meaning it is crowdfunding instead to cover production costs.

PBN founder – and director of the Vegan series Klaus Mitchell, said: “Due to the huge amount of work involved in putting these documentaries together, we really thought that Vegan 2019 would be the last.

“But when lockdown happened, we were able to find some extra time to put together a script for the events in the last nine months, making this year’s documentary a real possibility.

“What is exciting is that due to COVID-19, we feel that this year’s documentary would be unique – and considerably more exciting than previous years. Vegan 2020 aims to weave together the biggest events of the year in a powerful way that places the spotlight on topics not covered significantly in the past, such as pandemic risk and antibiotic resistance.”

Plant Based News is offering those who invest in the film a range of benefits, from PBN hoodies, to executive producer credits, and personalized thank-you videos from the entire PBN team.
