Heura makes a large range of vegan meat products
A Spanish vegan meat giant has ditched 12.85 tons of plastic from its products by changing the packaging.
Barcelona-based Heura wanted to create new wrapping which stood out for design and usability, is microwave-friendly, and eliminates plastic.
Its new packaging, which is 100 percent recyclable, reduced previous plastic use by 80 percent, as it features as recycled cardboard tray.

In a statement sent to Plant Based News, the company said that making the planet more sustainable is ‘one of Heura’s main reasons to exist’.
“Consumption of plant-based meat reduces gas emissions by 99 percent compared to animal meat,” said Heura. “For this reason, [Heura is] constantly working to reduce the environmental impact of the entire food chain.
“However, it should be borne in mind and highlight that according to a study by the University of Oxford, packaging represents only five percent of gas emissions from the food system while livestock, grazing and fishing are responsible for 47 percent of them.”
