A new vegan foodbank in the U.K aims to feed the hungry without harming animals, according to reports.

Bath Vegan Food Bank was set up by Helen Wright after the coronavirus pandemic meant foodbank demand skyrocketed.

Vegan foodbank

The bank only offers vegan products, but will feed anyone who declares they are financially suffering, whether they are following a plant-based diet or not, providing food parcels with beans, fruit and veg, plant milk, and a treat.

Wright, who has been vegan for eight years, told Somerset Live: “The foodbank was set up because of the coronavirus pandemic. I wanted to do something to help. There’s no other vegan food bank in the area.

“One person I spoke to went to another food bank and would take out anything that wasn’t vegan from their food parcel, but it wasn’t always replaced with something vegan.”

Fundraising

Wright has launched a fundraiser to accrue funds to feed as many people as possible, for as long as possible.

According to the crowdfunder: “The Covid-19 crisis has seen the use of food banks rise to unprecedented levels. Bath Vegan Food Bank is a Vegans Against World Hunger project which has been set up to help people in Bath who are struggling to put food on the table and buy other essential items.

“We deliver vegan food and toiletries parcels directly to clients’ homes, currently on a contact-free basis.”

How else to help

The foodbank is currently looking for volunteers, storage facilities, and donations of vegan toiletries, and household products.

These can be given to The Vegan Café in Moorland Road, Newleaf Healthfoods in Shaftesbury Road, and Seasons Natural Health Store in George Street.

You can find out more by emailing [email protected] or calling 07367 400636 between 10am and 2pm Monday to Friday.
