Low-calorie ice cream brand Halo Top has reformulated the recipe of its vegan range

The company, which has seven dairy-free flavors*, has replaced brown rice protein with fava bean protein – which it says provides a ‘creamier texture that’s packed with flavor’.

‘Quality products’

In an online statement, Senior Brand Manager at Halo Top Shilpa Gadhok said: “As a leader in the better-for-you category, Halo Top is always looking for new ways to innovate and bring forward quality products our consumers will love.

“Plant-based demand is higher than ever, and we want to provide our fans with an offering they feel great about eating — so they don’t have to choose between pursuing a plant-based lifestyle and enjoying dessert.”

The new vegan ice-creams, which contain 280-360 calories per pint, will start rolling out next month and will be available on supermarket shelves in October.

Vegan ice cream

According to online retailer Ocado, U.K searches for vegan ice-cream for skyrocketed by 181 percent over the last three years.

The supermarket says the numbers prove its customers are ‘actively interested in discovering plant-based alternatives’.

*Halo Top’s dairy-free flavors are Birthday Cake, Candy Bar, Chocolate, Chocolate Almond Crunch, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Peanut Butter Cup, and Sea Salt Caramel.
