A vegan burger that costs £1.99 for a pack of two has scooped top honors in a major blind taste test.
Budget supermarket Lidl’s W/O Meat Vegan Burger Patties won the ‘Best Veggie Burger’ category of Good Housekeeping’s BBQ Taste Test.

Burgers were assessed on their appearance, aroma, taste, and texture.
In a statement sent to Plant Based News, a Lidl spokesperson said: “Scoring a winning 84/100, Good Housekeeping’s taste testers were said to adore its ‘earthy mushroom and beetroot flavor’, as well as its ‘subtle spices’, and ‘thick, juicy bite’.”

Meat alternatives
An increasing number of Brits have been opting for meat alternatives during the coronavirus pandemic, with polling from The Vegan Society showing that one in five have cut down on meat consumption in this period.
According to the organization, the data highlights how ‘pressures on supermarkets and consumers alike are changing buying behavior towards a more ethical, compassionate alternative’.
In a statement sent to Plant Based News, Matt Turner, spokesperson for The Vegan Society said: “Many Brits are trying these alternatives for the first time and enjoying them so much that they intend on keeping them in their shopping basket when we return to normal times.
“They are purchasing items that they wouldn’t have given a second look a few months ago, but are now seeing these brilliant vegan alternatives as the new normal.”
